La tapisserie

Müntz, Eugène, 1845-1902 · 1882 · Paris, A. Quantin · 109 pictures

Eugène Müntz's history of tapestry, published in Paris by A. Quantin in 1882 for the Bibliothèque de l'enseignement des beaux-arts, surveying European weaving from medieval hangings to the Gobelins for art students, collectors and manufacturers. The plates are line reproductions of whole tapestries, so scenes come wrapped in wide borders of grotesques, candelabra, putti, garlands and corner cartouches, usable as ready-made frames, ornamental strips and full decorative panels in even, engraved line.
