A treatise on the theory of painting by the Lucchese painter Antonio Franchi, printed at Lucca by Salvatore and Giandomenico Marescandoli in 1739 for students and practitioners of the art. The plates are small woodcut geometry diagrams set into the text page: heavy black triangles, sight lines, right angles and plumb bobs with letter labels, useful as stark line marks, diagram motifs, or textures where letterpress type shows through the paper.
