La villa : dialogo
A 1559 Italian dialogue on country life, villas and gardens by Bartolomeo Taegio, printed in Milan by Francesco Moscheni for humanist landowners and readers of agricultural literature. The woodcuts are coarse-lined initials holding figures—a crowned harpist, a siren, struggling nudes—plus a strapwork frame of banderoles, masks, garlands and fruit swags enclosing two men talking in a landscape; useful as display letters, cartouche borders and hatched textures.
