Stones for building and decoration
A technical handbook on building and ornamental stone by Smithsonian geologist George P. Merrill, issued in 1910 by John Wiley in New York and Chapman & Hall in London for architects, builders and quarry operators. The plates are coarse-screen halftones from survey photographs showing slate and marble quarries, stepped benches of cut blocks, derricks and guy wires, and small groups of workmen against rock faces, with a few line-engraved panoramas of quarry towns; useful for industrial landscape texture, cable and mast geometry, and figures dwarfed by stone.
