Lead glazed pottery. Part first (common clays): plain glazed, sgraffito and slip-decorated wares

Barber, Edwin Atlee, 1851-1916 · 1907 · New York, Doubleday, Page & co · 44 pictures

A museum handbook on lead-glazed earthenware by Edwin AtLee Barber, curator at the Pennsylvania Museum, published in New York in 1907 for collectors, curators and students of American and European folk pottery. The halftone plates show Pennsylvania German sgraffito and slip-decorated dishes head-on: tulips, peacocks and distelfinks, scalloped leaves, and German inscriptions running around the rims, giving designers circular border lettering, stylized bird and flower motifs, and incised-line ornament.
