An Italian antiquarian guide to the ruins and ancient statuary of Rome, compiled by Lucio Mauro with Ulisse Aldrovandi's catalogue of antique sculpture, printed in Venice by Giordano Ziletti in 1556 for collectors and travellers. The woodcuts are typographic: a strapwork printer's device of crossed serpents and stars, and figured initials with nude bodies, rams and flames in dense hatching.
