Le Centaure, a short-lived quarterly of literature and art issued in Paris in 1896 by Henri Albert with contributions from André Gide, Jean de Tinan and the painter Albert Besnard, aimed at a small subscribing avant-garde readership. Plates mix tonal etched figure scenes with flat black-and-white brush vignettes of gowned women and birds, useful as spot ornaments, silhouette motifs and framed tailpieces.
