Le centre de l'amour : decouvert soubs divers emblesmes galans et facetieux
An emblem book of love, Le centre de l'amour, built on copperplate engravings by Peter Rollos and issued in 1687 under the joke imprint "Chez Cupidon, Paris" for courtly readers who traded in amorous mottoes and jests. The 98 small oblong plates show couples in ruffs, farthingales and plumed hats courting in paneled rooms and hilly landscapes, with trapdoors, eavesdroppers at windows, monks and bonfires; line-hatched shading, flat stage-like floors and short engraved captions make them usable as vignettes, spot figures and period costume reference.
