Le costume en orient
Max Tilke's survey of Eastern dress, published in Paris in 1922 for costume historians, tailors and designers, records garments from Turkey, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Persia and North Africa as flat, laid-out cut shapes rather than worn clothing. The colour plates show each robe, coat or shirt spread open to reveal its construction seams, gussets and sleeve geometry, with separate details of woven braid, embroidered bands and button loops, giving usable flat silhouettes and small repeating ornament strips.
