Lectures on architecture and painting, delivered at Edinburgh in November, 1853
John Ruskin's four public lectures on Gothic architecture and Pre-Raphaelite painting, given in Edinburgh in 1853 and issued by Wiley in New York in 1854 for general readers and students of design. The plates are fine pen-and-ink studies after Ruskin's own drawings: pointed window arches with cusped tracery, chevron-patterned shafts, a crocketed dormer canopy, a shingled spire, and carved capitals with naturalistic leaves and berries.
