Lectures on architecture and painting, delivered at Edinburgh in November 1853
John Ruskin's four Edinburgh lectures of 1853 on Gothic architecture, Turner, and Pre-Raphaelite painting, reissued in New York and London in 1892 for a general reading public. The plates are Ruskin's own line and tone drawings of building details — spires, battlemented towers, crocketed dormers, carved oculi — isolated against blank ground, useful as precise Gothic ornament references.
