Lectures on painting; delivered to the students of the Royal Academy
Lectures given by the painter Edward Armitage to Royal Academy students, published in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1883 as instruction in figure drawing, composition and the history of ancient dress. The plates are outline pen drawings: nude runners caught mid-stride with plumb lines and ground scribbles marking balance, and draped classical figures reduced to fold lines, useful as clean contour figures, motion studies and drapery patterns.
