Leerzaame zinnebeelden
A Dutch emblem book of moral instruction written by Adriaan Spinniker and published at Haarlem in 1714 by Izaak van der Vinne, with plates after drawings by Vincent Laurensz van der Vinne, aimed at readers seeking religious and ethical lessons. The 53 small horizontal etchings place single figures in wooded landscapes, on hilltops before ruined arcades, or in curtained bedrooms, built from dense hatching that a designer can mine for tree masses, cloud-streaked skies, stooped travellers and staged domestic interiors.
