A Dutch emblem book of Christian moral reflections drawn from comparisons with created things, written by Hendrik Graauwhart and printed for the author by Johannes Ratelband in Amsterdam in 1704 for Protestant lay readers. The 115 small horizontal copperplates set figures in loose biblical dress in open landscapes, each built around a spreading tree, a perched raven or a smoking pyre, with skies ruled in fine parallel lines and ground worked in dense crosshatching; useful for vignette-scale landscape stock, hatched sky textures and silhouetted tree profiles.
