A Victorian reprint (New York: A. C. Armstrong, 1887) of sixty-four woodcuts from Jan Veldener's 1483 Dutch book on the legend of the True Cross, with an introduction by John Ashton and preface by Sabine Baring-Gould, aimed at antiquarians and collectors of incunabula. The blocks are small square scenes in thick outline with sparse hatching: crowned kings, mitred bishops, woodcutters and processions of candle-bearers, useful as coarse-line figure groups, medieval costume and heraldic props.
