A French translation by Hendrik Jansen of Gérard de Lairesse's painting treatise, published in Paris by Moutard in 1787 for painters, students and amateurs. The plates seen here are coarse relief-cut headpiece bands: acanthus scrolls flanking a draped urn with half-figure terms, a sun and clouds over water, and a busy harbour with ships, barrels and bales.
