A French alchemical treatise by Gabriel de Castaigne, printed in Paris by Charles Seuestre in 1615 for readers pursuing metallic transmutation and cures for incurable disease. The plates here are printers' matter rather than diagrams: symmetrical arabesque tailpieces of interlaced scrollwork, a foliate initial P set in a ruled square, and a crowned coat of arms combining fleurs-de-lis with a cross, all usable as period-accurate ornament, drop caps, and heraldic stamps.
