Le livre des peintres et graveurs
Michel de Marolles's seventeenth-century notes on painters and engravers, edited by Georges Duplessis and reprinted in Paris by P. Daffis in 1872 for print collectors and art historians. The illustrations are square woodcut initial letters in heavy black line, each capital set against dense foliate scrollwork, curling leaves and dotted berries, and reproduce well at small sizes as drop caps, monograms or decorative tiles.
