A French illustrated survey of medieval and Renaissance decorative arts, compiled by Ferdinand Seré and published in Paris in 1851 for antiquarians, collectors and working ornamentists. Engraved and chromolithographed plates reproduce carved ivory panels, bronze doors, book covers and borders, with narrative figure scenes set in tiered compartments and framed by foliate, animal and grotesque bands usable as ready-made borders.
