Le pegme de Pierre Covstav
A French emblem book, Pierre Coustau's Pegma translated by Lanteaume de Romieu and printed by Barthélemy Molin at Lyon in 1560 for lawyers and humanist readers who read pictures alongside moral commentary. The woodcuts pair small emblem scenes with ornamental border strips of grotesque masks, foliate scrollwork, cartouches and putti, usable as headpieces, frames, rules and repeating horizontal bands.
