Les arts au moyen âge et à l'époque de la renaissance

Jacob, P. L., 1806-1884, Kellerhoven, Franz, ca. 1814-1872 · 1871 · Paris : Firmin Didot · 386 pictures

A survey of medieval and Renaissance decorative arts by the French bibliophile Paul Lacroix, who wrote as P. L. Jacob, with plates by the chromolithographer Franz Kellerhoven, published in Paris by Firmin Didot in 1871 for collectors and general readers. The engravings copy manuscript borders and inhabited initials, seal and tomb effigies of mounted knights in outline, and enamelled medallions framed in figural strapwork, giving designers ready foliate frames, grotesque figures, and cartouche surrounds.
