Le scelte pitture di Brescia additate al forestiere
A guidebook to the notable paintings of Brescia, written by Giulio Antonio Averoldo and printed by Gian-Maria Rizzardi there in 1700 for visitors touring the city's churches and collections. The plates here are woodcut initial letters set in square blocks, their capitals wrapped in acanthus, vine leaves, berries and a vase, printed with heavy ink and broken edges that designers can lift as drop caps or borrow as foliate ornament.
