A French translation of Basil Valentine's alchemical treatise on metallic medicine, with Nuisement's poem on the azoth of the philosophers, printed by Pierre Moët in Paris in 1660 for readers of alchemy and spagiric medicine. The plates run to woodcut initials and headbands cut in coarse black line — grotesque masks flanked by putti and scaly beasts, spiky acanthus, letters caged in foliage — usable as drop caps, rules and small spot ornaments.
