Les misotechnites aux enfers, ou, Examen des observations sur les arts
A satirical pamphlet in defence of artists against their critics, written and illustrated by the engraver Charles-Nicolas Cochin in 1763 and issued with a false Amsterdam imprint for readers in the Paris art world. The twelve narrow horizontal vignettes are etched in fine parallel and cross-hatching: caricatured heads, a figure with a hand-mirror in clouds, a sculptor working before a round colonnaded temple, embracing putti, and huddles of cloaked, hooded figures, all usable as strip headpieces, spot images or line-texture samples.
