Les origines de l'alchimie
Marcellin Berthelot's 1885 study of alchemy's beginnings, published in Paris by G. Steinheil for historians of science and classical scholars. The plates indexed here are printer's ornaments rather than illustrations: triangular tailpieces of symmetrical black scrollwork, heart-shaped foliate fleurons with crown and flame motifs, all usable as chapter breaks, borders, or stencil-like silhouettes.
