Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours
A school edition of Jules Verne's 1873 novel, issued in 1894 by D.C. Heath & Co. of Boston for American students reading French, from the Harvard University copy. The two scanned images are not story illustrations but book furniture: a heavy solid-black rectangle from the binding or a flooded plate, and an engraved Harvard seal with the Veritas shield of three open books inside a lettered ring, usable as a roundel, ex-libris mark, or high-contrast mask.
