A French emblem book of 1687 by the Jesuit Gabriel François Le Jay, printed in Paris for the court, celebrating Louis XIV's revocation of the Edict of Nantes through mottoes and devices explained in Latin and French verse. The engravings set landscapes, suns with human faces, ruins and storms inside cartouches, ribbons and rocky frames, supplying motto banners and emblem borders.
