Guglielmo Della Valle's letters on the fine arts of Siena, printed in Venice by Giovambatista Pasquali in 1782 for academicians and antiquarians studying Tuscan painting and architecture. The plates are letterpress ornament rather than subject illustration: framed woodcut initials enclosing heraldic shields, and symmetrical rococo headpieces of scrolling acanthus, urns, swags and flower baskets, usable as borders, drop caps and page dividers.
