Saverio Bettinelli's letters on the fine arts, printed in Venice by Carlo Palese in 1793 as a wedding gift volume for the Barbarigo-Pisani marriage and aimed at aristocratic readers of aesthetics. The plates are small oval and rounded-square engravings after antique gems, showing nude and draped mythological figures, winged cupids, columns and shields against dense horizontal line-ruled grounds that designers can lift as ready-made cameo vignettes.
