Lettering in ornament; an enquiry into the decorative use of lettering, past, present, and possible
A survey of decorative lettering by designer Lewis Foreman Day, published in London by B. T. Batsford in 1902 for craftsmen, signwriters and students of ornament. The plates are line reproductions of initials and inscriptions from manuscripts, tiles, metalwork and printing, many as white letters reserved out of dotted black grounds, usable as drop caps, monograms and border alphabets.
