Letters to a mother on the philosophy of Froebel
Susan E. Blow's 1899 Appleton volume explains Friedrich Froebel's kindergarten theory to American mothers, reprinting the German wood-engraved plates of his Mutter- und Koselieder. Each page sets a block of Gothic-type verse in a cartouche ringed by a continuous pictorial border of half-timbered houses, orchards, dovecotes and birds, with mothers and children below interlocking frames, vignette borders and outline landscape drawing to lift.
