Lettres familières de M. Winckelmann
Winckelmann's collected personal letters on art and antiquity, edited after his death and published in French at Amsterdam and Paris in 1781 for readers of art criticism and aesthetics. The plates here are typographic ornament rather than subject illustration: engraved headpieces of flower baskets in acanthus scrolls, ruled rules with centre rosettes, and letter-heading bands usable as dividers and chapter openers.
