Lettres familières de M. Winckelmann
Collected familiar letters of the art historian Johann Joachim Winckelmann, edited by Christian Gottlob Heyne and issued in 1781 by Couturier fils in Amsterdam and Paris for readers of antiquarian and aesthetic writing. The plates here are letterpress ornaments cut on wood — symmetrical acanthus-and-flower tailpieces, a cross-hatched heart flanked by laurel sprays, and a horizontal band with a flower basket signed Papillon 1769 — usable as page dividers, spot motifs, and section markers.
