Lettres sur l'Italie : faisant suite aux Lettres sur la Morée, l'Hellespont et Constantinople

Castellan, A. L. (Antoine Laurent), 1772-1838 · 1819 · Paris : A. Nepveu · 18 pictures

A three-volume set of travel letters on Italy by the French painter-engraver Antoine Laurent Castellan, published in Paris by A. Nepveu in 1819 as a sequel to his letters on the Morea and Constantinople, aimed at readers following the antiquarian tour. The outline etchings show Roman ruins, hill towns, waterfalls and city gates with ox carts, peasants and travellers set in open landscapes, offering thin-line foliage, distant architectural silhouettes and small staffage figures usable as vignettes or scale accents.
