Lettres sur l'Italie, en 1785
Travel letters written by the French magistrate Charles Mercier Dupaty during an 1785 journey through Italy, reissued in an illustrated edition by Ad. Mame et cie of Tours in 1843 for general French readers. The wood engravings give overgrown temple ruins and colonnades, panoramic views across plains toward distant towns, and a Roman bridge with statues and a rowboat below, plus a dense marbled endpaper of small ringed blooms usable as a repeat pattern.
