Le vingtième siècle: la vie électrique
A French futurist novel of 1893 by Albert Robida, written and illustrated by him for Librairie Illustrée in Paris, imagining daily life in a twentieth century run on electricity. The pen-and-ink drawings are loose and caricatural, with hatched shadows, crowded audiences, screens and projected faces, and women in leg-of-mutton sleeves handling machines — useful for satirical figure groups and early visions of telecommunication.
