Levini Lemnii Occulta naturae miracula : Wunderbarliche Geheimnisse der Natur in des Menschen Liebe vnd Seel, auch in vielen andern natürlichen Dingen, als Steinen, Ertzt, Gewechs vnd Thieren ...
A German translation of Levinus Lemnius's Occulta naturae miracula, a natural-philosophy and medical compendium on love, the soul, stones, metals, plants and animals, edited by Jakob Horst and printed at Leipzig in 1605 for physicians and learned readers. The plates here are printer's ornament rather than subject illustration: woodcut tailpieces built around a winged cherub mask with strapwork, swags and acanthus, plus heavy foliate initials whose letterforms dissolve into curling ribbon, useful as section breaks, drop caps and frame elements.
