Raffaele Soprani's 1674 lives of Genoese painters, sculptors and architects, printed in Genoa by Bottaro and Tiboldi with engraved portraits by Georges Tasnière after Domenico Piola, addressed to collectors and connoisseurs of local art. Most of the index is woodcut and engraved ornament: square initials filled with flat-petalled flowers, leaves and vine on black-bordered grounds, plus headpieces and artist portraits usable as display letters, borders and period text decoration.
