A philosophical lecture on Platonic ideas and beauty delivered by Francesco de' Vieri to the Accademia Fiorentina and printed in Florence by Giorgio Marescotti in 1581 for a learned Italian readership. Its pictures are printers' ornaments cut in wood: strapwork headpieces with bearded masks and dolphin-tailed grotesques, a foliate initial S, and a compact leaf-and-bud tailpiece, all usable as rules, dividers, and drop caps.
