L'homme, et la formation du foetus
Descartes's posthumous treatise on the human body and the formation of the fetus, edited by Clerselier with commentary by La Forge and Schuyl, printed in Paris by Théodore Girard in 1677 for natural philosophers and physicians. The plates mix lettered vortex and orbit diagrams of concentric rings with anatomical figures of nerves, eyes and organs, giving compass-drawn circular schematics and early mechanistic body studies.
