Sebastiano Serlio's five books on architecture, issued in Venice in 1566 by Francesco Senese and Giovanni Chrieger for builders, patrons and students of the classical orders. The woodcuts and line plates give plans, sections and elevations of arches, rusticated gateways, vaults and cornices, plus geometric constructions, supplying designers with clean outline architecture, mouldings, capitals and perspective frameworks.
