The life and letters of William Beckford, of Fonthill
A biography of the English collector and Fonthill Abbey builder William Beckford, compiled from his letters by Lewis Saul Benjamin (writing as Lewis Melville) and published by Heinemann in London in 1910 for readers of literary and art-collecting history. The plates are halftone reproductions of eighteenth-century oil portraits and topographical views of Fonthill, dark-grounded full-length figures in frock coats, peer's robes and empire gowns, useful for period costume reference, brooding tonal backgrounds and country-house architecture.
