The life of J.M.W. Turner, R.A.
Philip Gilbert Hamerton's 1879 biography of J.M.W. Turner, issued in London by Seeley, Jackson & Halliday for Victorian readers of art history and collectors of Turner's prints. The plates are etchings and photogravure reproductions after Turner's drawings and Liber Studiorum subjects: cliff faces built from dense hatching, coastal towns and harbours seen across open water, and soft tonal washes of hills under cloud, useful as ready-made landscape textures and skies.
