The life and times of James Catnach : (late of Seven Dials), ballad monger
A biography of the Seven Dials broadside printer James Catnach, written by Charles Hindley and published in London by Reeves and Turner in 1878 for collectors and antiquarians of street literature. Its pages reproduce hundreds of the shop's own stock woodcuts, some cut by Bewick: ballad singers, beggars, sailors, murderers with hatchets, gallows and coffin borders, printed in coarse heavy line with worn edges and blunt black masses useful as ready-made vignettes and spot cuts.
