Light and lighting

Illuminating Engineering Society, Association of Public Lighting Engineers (Great Britain) · 1908 · [London] · 238 pictures

Light and lighting is the journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Association of Public Lighting Engineers, issued in London from 1908 for engineers, architects and shopkeepers concerned with gas and electric illumination. Its halftone photographs record lit interiors at night — shop windows with waiting crowds, a small cinema with painted drop curtain, a skylit banking hall, a tram saloon of pendant globes — soft grey plates usable for period fixture shapes, silhouetted figures and dim tonal backgrounds.
