Crane, Walter, 1845-1915 · 1921 · London : G. Bell · 197 pictures

Walter Crane's drawing and design manual, first issued in 1900 from lectures to art students at the Manchester Municipal School of Art and reprinted by G. Bell in London in 1921. Its 198 plates are pen-and-brush line studies: spirals, meanders and lozenge rosettes, black-and-white floral repeats, illuminated border corners, and diagrams comparing outline with solid mass — a source for silhouette motifs, border corners and flat pattern units.
