A handbook of the world's ruling houses, translated from Ferdinand Ludwig von Bressler und Aschenburg and printed at Venice in 1720, setting out genealogies, territories and governments of sovereigns for courtiers, diplomats and students of nobility. The plates are small text-block woodcuts of state arms: quartered shields crowded with lions, eagles and bends, ermine mantles, coronets and crowns, and a double-headed eagle holding sceptre and orb, all cut in coarse hatching that scales well for stamps, seals and monogram devices.
