Davidson, James Mackenzie, Sir, 1856-1919 · 1916 · New York, P.B. Hoeber · 63 pictures

A 1916 surgical manual by Sir James Mackenzie Davidson, published in New York by P.B. Hoeber, explaining how to find embedded bullets, shrapnel and metal splinters in the eye and body by X-ray and stereoscopic measurement, written for wartime surgeons and radiologists. The plates are coarse-grained halftone radiographs overlaid with fine crosshair lines, dark wire probes and small bright metal fragments, offering soft grey gradients, thin registration marks and silhouetted foreign objects.
