Part 52 of the Boston series "Masters in Art," issued by Bates and Guild in 1904 as a monthly picture-and-text monograph on Lorenzo Lotto for American art students and general readers. Twenty full-page halftone plates reproduce his altarpieces, saints in cloud-borne assemblies, Nativities and half-length portraits of bearded men in fur, printed dark with heavy shadow, so figures and gestures read as silhouettes against near-black grounds.
