The magical writings of Thomas Vaughan (Eugenius Philatethes) : A verbatim reprint of his first four treatises: Anthroposophia theomagica, Anima magica abscondita, Magia adamica, and the true Cœlum terræ
A verbatim 1888 reprint by George Redway of London gathering four alchemical treatises written in the 1650s by the Welsh hermeticist Thomas Vaughan, issued for Victorian occultists, antiquarians and collectors of esoteric literature. The plates here are square woodcut initial letters in white-on-black relief, their stems wrapped in acanthus scrolls, oak leaves, crested birds and long-beaked grotesque heads, giving a designer a set of decorative capitals and repeatable foliate border motifs.
